In the exchange of ideas and opinions with Mr. Otto Granados, I would like to recall an essential premise: the times change and, with them, the ways in which we understand and build the economy. The vision of entrepreneurship can not be anchored in the paradigms of the past.
Mr. Granados, thank you so much deference and recognition to the business sector, derivatives of my answer. It's meaningful to me, and for all of us, the entrepreneurs, so to see it. I am pleased that my collaboration has led to a reconsideration of its part. However, in their responses, seem to cling to an outdated notion of entrepreneurial success. It focuses on the idea that a company can only be considered successful if it is quoted on the stock exchange, if it appears in any list of Forbes or if it is considered innovative to appear in an index. I understand that you use the information that you consider relevant to their decisions. However, in that book, that it is still elusive, we urge you not to denigrate entrepreneurship aguascalentense with a tone derogatory and, then, to praise him. We have noticed that, unlike others, with which it relates, here you will find answers and, certainly, based on data, although you may not want to review them.
But beyond the difference of ideas that a former governor and an entrepreneur can have, and the reality reaches us. The companies of the industrial age are still very important, but companies now more prevalent because they are not of the septum and with a fireplace. In this globalized era, the traditional definitions no longer be self-supporting.
The business world, mr. Granados, has undergone significant transformations in recent years. An example is that recently, several successful companies have chosen not to quote or withdraw from the bag for strategic reasons. For example, firms such as Dell, Panera Bread, Cabela s, Sanborns, their bachoco, or even Twitter, which were once in the public market, they decided to return to the private sphere. This trend does not reflect a financial weakness; on the contrary, many of these companies believe that operate outside of the bag offers greater flexibility and allows them to focus on long-term strategies without the constant pressure to meet the expectations quarterly shareholders. It is crucial not to stay anchored in the notion of how it worked, Mexico and the world in the 90's. The reality of business today is much more complex and multi-faceted.
Let me give you some data that we can say that ALL the companies in Aguascalientes are as valuable as those of any other state. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Aguascalientes has a population economically active derivative of employment in micro, small, medium and large companies 41,490,088 people. Of these, Smes generate 87% of these jobs. If you still believe the agricultural sector and at the same government, Smes remain the main sources of employment, providing the 65.30% of the total economically active population. You will agree that, for a company, there is no greater social contribution that generate jobs.
How is it possible that a state with the business dynamism Aguascalientes not be properly represented in the bag? Simple, because the bag is not the only indicator of success. There are technology companies, services, and startups that are revolutionizing markets, generating employment and contributing to the GDP without the need of appearing in these listings. And yes, many of them are in Aguascalientes.
The state of Aguascalientes has been and continues to be the cradle of entrepreneurs and business owners that, with effort and determination, can contribute to the development of the state and the country. We do not need to appear on a list to confirm our value or success. What we see on the streets, in the jobs generated in the innovation and the real impact that we have on our communities.
And yes, I repeat to you, mr. Granados, we are the cradle of innovation. Let me introduce you to the child that unknown and breathes despite the constant onslaught entrepreneurship. If the data of IMCO were not to your liking, let me introduce you to the Report Global Innovation 2022, published by the World Intellectual Property organization (WIPO). In this report, Mexico was ranked 58 in the world, with a score of 41.2, which represents an advance of 10 positions in comparison with the previous year. In terms of Aguascalientes, the Innovation index State (GII-E), 2022, also WIPO, places us in the tenth position at the national level with a score of 40.9. This means a jump of 9 places from the previous year, when the state occupied the 19th position. Unfortunately, these indices can sometimes overshadow flashes of genuine innovation. By way of example, I don't know if you are aware of the company Ogre Pixel, a native of Aguascalientes, and that is far from trading on the stock exchange, is a leading developer of video games. It has been selected by Apple to be part of its select group of suppliers for your console.
Mr. Granados boasts of figures and achievements during his administration, and I have no doubt of its contribution to the development of the state. But the Aguascalientes today is the product of the sum of the efforts of many, including the entrepreneurs who have day-to-day facing challenges and looking for opportunities to grow, but, above all, of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Let me come back to the same example that puts the governor in where it mentions the fortune of Elon Musk in comparison with the GDP of Aguascalientes, but you forget that Musk did not begin with Tesla or SpaceX, but with Zip2. Similarly, many employers Aguascalientes have started with small projects, but have not found fertile ground to grow. And this fertile land that I've wanted to explain from the previous article is the key to generate indicators of value, such as the growth or the quality of employment. And forgive me, dear readers, if you repeat it, but if I want a personality as important Aguascalientes add to the construction of better conditions, it is necessary that you understand WHAT IS A BUSINESS ECOSYSTEM.
An ecosystem of entrepreneurship and business refers to the interconnected network of individuals, companies, investors and organizations that operate in an economic environment specific. In this ecosystem, startups and traditional companies interact and nurture of several key components. These include not only the infrastructure and access to capital, but also a workplace culture positive, legal certainty, tax incentives, and facilitated access to financing. A reduction of bureaucratic procedures, as well as other incentives, are essential to foster an environment of business prosperous. In summary, it is an environment in which entrepreneurs and businesses have everything they need to innovate, grow, and thrive.
Indeed, the role of government is not to do business, as well points out Mr. Granados. God help us. Its role is to generate the conditions for businesses to flourish. In that sense, Aguascalientes has been advanced, but there are still challenges that remain. The collaboration between business and government is essential to overcome them.
Former Governor: I repeat to you with sincerity, that the momentum that I defend the business guild is not mere rhetoric or interest of occupying a space in a column of BINoticias. We need a culture that encourages and celebrates the creation of more companies, and that does not reduce them to simple numbers or expectations are unachievable. In an ideal, we want all of our companies to glow with the success that you require, but the reality is that each company is a separate world with its own struggles and triumphs.
The constant denigration of the companies and the image of the entrepreneur as an antagonist social does not contribute to the development or understanding. This perception has eroded the confidence in a free-market model that has proven, time and again, their ability to generate well-being. Perhaps we could also agree that the loss of this economic model is one of the greatest threats facing our country.
Unfortunately, not only the reputation of our companies is being questioned. Those of us who, with courage, we get to the front to represent and defend our fellow entrepreneurs, we are often in the spotlight of unjustified attacks. I felt the distortion of facts that is safe. An act as simple as traveling with cash was disproportionately amplified in the media, and maliciously filed as a felony, with the clear intent to damage my reputation and minimize my influence in the public debate. This persecution was not born of any real lack on my part, but by the mere fact of being a strong voice, clear and uneasy, from the business sector, and points to does not tolerate acts of corruption. Fortunately, in my case, the truth prevailed. However, it is painful and alarming to recognize that not all have been run with the same luck. In that same year, a dear friend and colleague, who is also the president of COPARMEX, but of Parral, Chihuahua, was brutally murdered. Their values and convictions, similar to mine, surely they unleashed the wrath of those you disliked. His tragic end is a reminder cruel of the risks that we face not only be entrepreneurs, but also to decide to raise the voice and to represent with integrity to our industry.
In a Mexico where the questioning of the free market and the rhetoric of anti-business have become common, we would expect figures to its size, mr. Granados, to take a position that is more constructive. Will I extend the invitation to join us in building a new business culture, in which not be bullied or put down those who, day after day, looking to grow, innovate and contribute to the welfare of the society.
